Welcome, 2012!
Chicago finally figured out it was winter (temps in the high teens/low 20s, windchill in the single digits, snow/ice on the ground, etc). I'm thankful for the delay.
My last week of 2011 was my highest mileage OF THE YEAR at 25. It also included my FASTEST 8 miler, a virtual race, and a family run, as well as a random rendezvous on the path with a new mom friend. Here are the details:
Monday - Home for the Holidays 10K (57:40) - 6.5 miles total / killer lift session at night
Wednesday - 8 miles solo (8:52 pace)
Thursday - 3.5 miles at dusk (family run)
Saturday - 7 miles (4 miles to the fish market - family run / 3 miles extra - with friend)
Total: 25 miles
That's not a bad way to end the year, and it is in line with my plans to ramp things up in the coming months.
This week started off with a snowy run on Monday. The flakes had stopped falling, but there was some accumulation on the ground. It was pretty, but they novelty will soon wear off.
Today I managed a six miler with 6 x 800. Hooray for grandparents and their desire to babysit! There have also been two ab workouts this year (and it's only January 3), but I have Ab Month on the horizon, so I better start warming up the core.
So, back to my 2012 plans .. here are my goals for this year.
1. Train for and run a marathon. I have one picked out, but I haven't signed up for it. I hope to register by the end of this month. My time goal for #13 is TBD -- it most likely will be established closer to race day.
2. Participate in National Ab Month. Last year I had to drop out due to pregnancy, but this year I hope to go all out.
3. Continue to add some strength training (yoga, weights, etc) and stretching to my weekly routine so I can maintain my injury-free status.
4. And lastly, I'd like to run (race?) three or more races in the upcoming year. My participation in races has really dropped in the past two years, and I'd like to turn that around.
So there they are. There's nothing special about these goals, but they will help me focus my running in the upcoming year. I'm eager to hear about other people's goals this year - I might even add some to my list if I see something I like.

Looking forward to seeing what marathon you pick out!! Keep up the great running.
13 marathons, wow! That snow looks pretty--I doubt I'll see any this year, living much farther south. But I can't say I miss the 20 degree weather you're having! Great job ending the year strong!
VERY excited for Ab Month - your posts then are always really inspiring for those of us who aren't as dedicated :)
Happy New Year!
Those are awesome goals and HOLY COW! I cannot believe you have run 13 marathons!! Impressive! I just took a look at your PR's and you've got some nice times over there too! A sub 4 hour marathon is big on my goal list for this year. So awesome that you have already done that!
